How to Print Envelopes

Envelope printing usually fails for one of three reasons: the wrong envelope size, the wrong feed direction, or address placement that is too close to the edge.

Set Up the Envelope File

  1. Create or open a document sized for your envelope, such as #10, DL, C5, or C6.
  2. Place the recipient address in the center area and the return address in the upper-left area.
  3. Leave enough margin for your printer's non-printable edge.
  4. Preview the page before printing so the address is not rotated or clipped.

Choose the Right Printer Settings

In the print dialog, choose the actual envelope size instead of Letter or A4. If your printer does not list the envelope size, use a custom paper size with the envelope's width and height.

Load the Envelope Correctly

Printer feed direction varies by model. Look for the small tray icon near the paper feed, or print a test on plain paper with an arrow drawn on it to learn which side and direction your printer uses.
