Where Margins Are Set
Print-File.com uses your browser's native print dialog. Margins are controlled by the print settings, not by our tool. After you click Print Document, the print dialog opens—this is where you adjust margins.
- Chrome/Edge: Under "More settings", look for Margins. Options include Default, None, Minimum, and Custom.
- Firefox: Margins appear in the print dialog. Choose None for borderless or set custom values.
- Safari (Mac): Click "Show Details", then adjust layout and margins in the expanded panel.
Default vs. None vs. Custom
Default uses your printer's safe print area (usually 0.5in or 5mm). None removes margins for edge-to-edge printing if your printer supports it. Custom lets you enter exact top, bottom, left, and right values (e.g. 0.25in or 10mm).
Content Getting Cut Off?
If text or images are cropped at the edges:
- Use "Fit to page" or reduce scale (e.g. 95%) so content fits within the printable area.
- Increase margins if your document has important content near the edges.
- For PDFs with fixed layout, try "Shrink to fit" or "Scale to fit" in the print dialog.
Printing Images with Margins
Images print at their natural size unless you scale. To add space around a photo: choose "Fit to page" to center and scale the image, leaving margins automatically. For exact control, use custom margin values.
Troubleshooting Margin Issues
Some printers enforce a minimum margin (non-printable area). If "None" doesn't work, your hardware may not support borderless printing. In that case, use Minimum or a small custom value like 0.2in.
