Quick Diagnostic Checklist
Before diving deeper, verify these basics:
- File is one of: PDF, DOCX, PNG, JPG, GIF, or TXT
- File size is under 50MB
- JavaScript is enabled in your browser
- You're using a recent version of Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Safari
- Pop-up blocker is not blocking the print dialog
File Won't Load or Preview Is Blank
If the preview area stays blank or shows an error:
- Corrupted file: Open the file in another app (e.g. Adobe Reader, Word) to confirm it's valid.
- Unsupported format: DOC (old Word) has limited support; save as DOCX. Password-protected PDFs cannot be printed here.
- Large file: Files over 50MB are rejected. Compress or split the document.
- Browser cache: Hard refresh (Ctrl+F5 or Cmd+Shift+R) or try incognito/private mode.
Print Dialog Doesn't Open
If clicking Print Document does nothing:
- Allow pop-ups for print-file.com in your browser settings.
- On Mac, use ⌘+P; on Windows, use Ctrl+P to trigger the print dialog manually.
- Check if another window or extension is blocking the dialog.
Wrong Orientation or Scaling
Content prints sideways or is cut off:
- In the print dialog, change Orientation to Portrait or Landscape to match your document.
- Use Fit to page or Scale to fit content on the page.
- On Mac: Click "Show Details" for more options. On Windows: Expand "More settings" or open printer Properties.
Blank or Partial Output
Only some pages print, or output is blank:
- Set print range to "All pages" in the print dialog.
- Ensure "Background graphics" (or equivalent) is enabled if your document has colors or images.
- Try a different browser if the issue persists.
Browser-Specific Tips
Chrome and Edge offer the most consistent experience. Safari on Mac may require enabling "Print backgrounds" in the print dialog for full-color output. Firefox users should ensure the latest version is installed.
